  • Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets = 08/02 - 08/04

    Friday, 2nd August,
    7:05 PM EDT
    PNC Park

Steven Matz, LH (6-6, 4.32, 93 Ks) - New York Mets

Trevor Williams, RH (3-4, 4.77, 75 Ks) - Pittsburgh Pirates

METS: Since returning to the Mets’ rotation after the All-Star break, Matz has gone 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three starts. The last of those was the first shutout of his career, which Matz achieved on only 99 pitches. He’s 1-1 lifetime at PNC Park.

PIRATES: After a four-start skid coming off the injured list, Williams seems to be righting the ship. He's allowed four earned runs in 12 innings with 14 strikeouts over his last two starts, including a strong seven-inning showing Saturday at Citi Field.

Marcus Stroman, RH (6-11, 2.96, 99 Ks) - New York Mets

Chris Archer, RH (3-8, 5.58, 116 Ks) - Pittsburgh Pirates

METS: The Mets expect Stroman, whom they acquired for two pitching prospects days before the Trade Deadline, to debut Saturday in Pittsburgh. It will be Stroman’s first career game for anyone but the Blue Jays, who drafted him back in 2012.

PIRATES: Archer took a step forward in two quality starts after the All-Star break, but he's since taken a step back his last two times out. Archer has allowed 10 runs over 11 innings in his last two starts. He's given up a homer in 15 of his last 16 starts.

Noah Syndergaard, RH (7-5, 4.10, 137 Ks) - New York Mets

Joe Musgrove, RH (8-9, 4.23, 104 Ks) - Pittsburgh Pirates

METS: Untraded at the Deadline, Syndergaard will look to keep his strong second half rolling. In four starts since the All-Star break, Syndergaard owns a 1.91 ERA with 36 strikeouts and seven walks in 28 1/3 innings.

PIRATES: After a shaky outing against the Cardinals at home, Musgrove bounced back with a quality outing to beat the Reds in Cincinnati on Tuesday. The righty held Cincy to two runs on five hits over six innings to snap Pittsburgh's nine-game losing streak.
