  • Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets = 07/12 - 07/14

    Friday, 12th July,
    7:10 PM EDT
    Marlins Park

Jason Vargas, LH (3-4, 3.77, 63 Ks) - New York Mets

Caleb Smith, LH (4-4, 3.50, 88 Ks) - Miami Marlins

METS: If Vargas maintains the type of production he gave the Mets prior to the All-Star break, he may garner interest before the July 31 Trade Deadline. Since April 19, Vargas has gone 2-4 with a 2.76 ERA in 12 starts, with 60 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings.

MARLINS: Smith made a nice return from the injured list (left hip inflammation) and beat the Braves at Atlanta on Saturday. Smith has faced the Mets once this year, on April 1, when he gave up two runs in five innings in a no-decision. Smith has averaged 11 K/9.

    Saturday, 13th July,
    6:10 PM EDT
    Marlins Park

Noah Syndergaard, RH (6-4, 4.68, 101 Ks) - New York Mets

Zac Gallen, RH (0-1, 4.50, 16 Ks) - Miami Marlins

METS: After his final start before the All-Star break, Syndergaard described his battle on the mound as a “me-against-me” struggle to repeat his delivery. He posted a 5.94 ERA with eight walks in 16 2/3 innings over his last three starts before the break.

MARLINS: The rookie right-hander makes his fourth big league start, and he seeks his first win. Gallen has logged 12 innings, and he has averaged 12 K/9. In his last start, on July 2 at Washington, he gave up two runs in two innings, before a lengthy rain delay ended his outing.

    Sunday, 14th July,
    1:10 PM EDT
    Marlins Park

Jacob deGrom, RH (4-7, 3.27, 138 Ks) - New York Mets

Sandy Alcantara, RH (4-8, 3.82, 70 Ks) - Miami Marlins

METS: Knowing that deGrom, a National League All-Star, wasn’t going to get a break between the season’s first and second halves, the Mets scheduled him to take a full eight days between starts. deGrom has one win in his last 10 starts, despite putting a 3.29 ERA in that span.

MARLINS: Alcantara threw a scoreless eighth inning for the National League in the All-Star Game and logged one strikeout. Alcantara threw the lone complete game this year for Miami, on May 19 against the Mets. He allowed no runs and just two hits that day.
