Walker Lockett, RH (_-_, _.__. _ Ks) - New York Mets

Tyler Chatwood, RH (3-1, 3.60, 29 Ks) - Chicago Cubs

METS: Acquired in the Kevin Plawecki trade from Cleveland, Lockett will be called up to make his Mets debut Thursday against the Cubs. The righty missed the first six weeks of this season due to a right arm injury but has since posted a 3.28 ERA in four outings at Triple-A Syracuse.

CUBS: With Kyle Hendricks (right shoulder) out, Chatwood will get the call against the Mets. Chatwood made a spot start on April 21 and spun six shutout innings against the D-backs. He has a 2.87 ERA in his past 15 games.

Jason Vargas, LH (3-3, 3.74, 44 Ks) - New York Mets

Yu Darvish, RH (2-3, 4.65, 91 Ks) - Chicago Cubs

METS: Vargas departed his last start after four innings due to a left calf cramp, but the Mets believe he should be fine to start Friday in Chicago. He owns a 2.39 ERA in his last nine games dating to April 19, and he is 2-0 lifetime at Wrigley Field.

CUBS: In his previous start, Darvish returned to Dodger Stadium for the first time since his poor outing in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series, and he enjoyed his best start as a Cub, tossing seven innings and allowing one run while striking out 10.

    :bchi570:

Zack Wheeler, RH (5-5, 4.94, 103 Ks) - New York Mets

Jose Quintana, LH (4-6, 3.87, 72 Ks) - Chicago Cubs

METS: An impending free agent, Wheeler acknowledged after his last start that trade rumors may begin to swirl around him if the Mets continue sliding down the NL East standings. He would be tempting to contenders, with 103 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings.

CUBS: Quintana pitched fairly well in his last start, when the Cubs fell, 3-2, to the Dodgers. The southpaw went five innings, allowing two runs, walking three and striking out three for a no-decision.

    :bchi570:

Jacob deGrom, RH (4-6, 3.26, 112Ks) - New York Mets

Cole Hamels, LH (6-2, 2.85, 91 Ks) - Chicago Cubs

METS: Even though he pitched into the ninth inning in his last start, striking out 10 and allowing only two runs in Atlanta, deGrom was disappointed by the performance. He was upset he could not finish the job, giving up two solo homers in the ninth.

CUBS: Hamels became the 10th left-hander in MLB history to reach 2,500 strikeouts in his previous start vs. the White Sox. He went seven innings, allowing one run and striking out eight while taking a no-decision. Hamels is now 2-1 with a ridiculous 0.31 ERA in his last four starts.
