    YANKEES: Tanaka has won five consecutive decisions and three straight starts, most recently beating the O's with 5 1/3 innings of 4-run, 8-hit ball Saturday. Tanaka has allowed at least one homer in each of his last five starts, and nine total in that span.

    METS: How impressive has deGrom been? Over his past eight starts, spanning 47 1/3 innings, deGrom owns a 0.57 ERA, 68 strikeouts and 15 walks. He is 1-3 with a 4.10 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees, including his Major League debut in 2014.

    Steven Matz, LH (2-4, 3.42) - New York Mets



    YANKEES: German made progress in his last outing, allowing 4 runs and 7 hits in 6 2/3 innings to the Tigers, though he lost his third straight start. The rookie is 0-3 with a 6.33 ERA in 5 starts since taking Jordan Montgomery's place in the rotation.

    METS: Quietly, Matz has rounded into form after a rocky April, posting a 2.32 ERA since the start of May. He hasn’t had much success against the Yankees over the years, going 1-2 with a 7.63 ERA in three career outings.

    Luis Severino, RH (9-1, 2.20) - New York Yankees


    Seth Lugo, RH (1-1, 2.04) - New York Mets



    YANKEES: Severino continued to pitch like an ace his last time out, striking out 10 over 8 innings of 2-run, 4-hit ball to beat the Tigers. Severino has won seven straight decisions and has compiled a 1.85 ERA in 10 starts over that span, dating to April 16.

    METS: Lugo will step in to make another spot start for the Mets. Noah Syndergaard, who had originally scheduled to start, was scratched after experiencing some swelling and discomfort after playing catch on Friday.

      I just got the picture of Callaway pailing like crazy with some the players just staring at him in amazement.

      I'm not saying the Mets should do a fire sale to right the boat, but they should at least get rid of the waterlogged deadwood.
