Mets to Face Marlins in Puerto Rico During 2020 MLB season

The three-game series will take place on April 28-30

    12 Aug 2019, 12:26 PM ET

The Mets will be making their way to Puerto Rico during the 2020 season to play a three-game series against the Marlins in San Juan.

The series will take place on April 28-30 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, as the MLB makes their way to Puerto Rico for the second time in the past three seasons.

"Puerto Rico has a rich baseball history and passionate baseball fans," Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said in an official release. "We are honored to represent the Mets, and Major League Baseball, and are looking forward to returning to Puerto Rico to play the Marlins in 2020."

As Wilpon mentions, this isn't the first time the Mets have been to Puerto Rico. They were there with the Marlins back in 2010, and this will be the fifth time both of these franchises make their way to the island.

Playing internationally is something the Mets have been a part of for years now. The first international regular season games played were between the Mets and Padres back in 1996, when they went to Monterrey, Mexico. New York was also in Tokyo, Japan in 2000 with the Cubs to play in the first games outside of North America.

Mets' 2020 Season Schedule Released, Will Open at Nationals on March 26

Subway Series dates, Puerto Rico series with Marlins, and more

      12 Aug 2019 1:23 PM ET

The Mets may be looking to finish this season's schedule strong, but their 2020 season schedule has been released as well.

New York will be back in our nation's capital on March 26 to open up the new year against the Nationals. The Mets will, then, have their home opener on March 30 when the Phillies come to town for a three-game series.

Looking at the schedule, some notable series are with the Marlins in Puerto Rico at the end of April, the Dodgers coming to town at the end of May, and Fourth of July weekend with the Padres in town. The Mets also have a long West Coast stretch in August, playing the Rockies and Dodgers from Aug. 3-9 followed by series with the Angels and A's on Aug. 18-23.

The Subway series begins on the road next season, when the Mets travel to the Bronx on July 7-8. Then, the series makes it way to Flushing on July 28-29 to finish the regular season bout between the two rivals.

The Mets will also be playing their first interleague series at Citi Field when the Astros come to town for a two-game set on June 2-3. The Mariners (July 17-19) and Rangers (Sept. 18-20) are the other two series.

To end the season, the Mets have two division foes in the Phillies and Marlins, but all those games will be on the road from Sept. 21-27.
